Drow culture

Drow/dark elves, are an extremely conservative species like most elves. They live in the underdark, a brutal, sickening, place located deep underground.

Drows are extremely matriarchal, women tend to be taller, stronger, and more prominent with magic. Men are trained to be subservient from birth and if they disobey they are sacrificed to their spider goddess Lolth.

Drow are not monogamous, men have no say in who they bed or when they bed. Noble Women tend to have multiple male concubines at a time and tend to have relations with other female drow. And although it's not "impossible" for drow to be monogamous it is

Men

Men are completely subservient to women being more like pets then fellow drow. The highest prestige a man can find in drow society is becoming a house weaponsmaster, house Archwizard, or becoming the patron for their matron mother. A weaponmaster is a noble drow(normally male) in charge of the houses armory and army. A archwizard is the houses strongest wizard (normally male). But even with these titles the highest prestige men are lower than the lowest prestige woman. Men are chosen as concubines or on rare occasions husbands, based off strength, obedience, and attractiveness. The closest thing you will find to love in a drow relationship is if a female likes to show off her male like and treat him like a prized possession

Roles for commoner men include, warriors, wizards, (to fill a house's quota for fighters, men are expendable which is why they fill the bracket), Craftsman and servants.

Roles for Noble men include, high ranking warriors and wizards, and becoming consorts and concubines for priestesses. And patrons for their matron mother

Houses

Not all drow belong to a house, this includes slaves, commoners, local militia, servants, or merchants

and at the head of each house is a matron mother. And the way a new matron mother is selected is through assassination, or combat. Most likely from one of the matrons daughters or possibly sisters if she has any left. There is no diplomacy or loyalty in drow society, only blood and sacrifice. The matron mother is responsible for most of the nobility in her house so most of the priestesses should be her daughters, the high-ranking elite male warriors should be her sons. All the other nobility in a house are children from the priestesses or Noble males. _______________________________________________

Matron mothers

Matron mothers are the heads of their respective houses, they have the deepest connection to Lolth and the most power in the house, they have absolute authority over everyone.

Just like any other Noble female drow, they can use men however they please but matron mothers also have a patron. A patron is a male drow the matron mother has children with, he is not a pet, he is not a concubine, he is something above those. Most matrons only have one patron, but some have multiple.
