The battlefield, not too long ago a peaceful plateau, dotted with small clusters of woods, is a scene of absolute carnage and confusion as shells land everywhere, and Prussian units have been driven back after they viciously mauled French artillery positions, and a series of skirmishes have now broken out as Prussian forces attempt to wrest control of Rezonville, so as to cut off the French retreat and to destroy their forces there. These skirmishes have caused enourmous losses for the German armies, and, after several hours of fighting, it has become clear that it is necessary for the 5th Cavalry Division to secure III Corp's left flank in order to protect German positions, therefore, the 4th Cuirassier Regiment 'von Dreisen' alongside many others, are to take part in a charge commanded by Major-General Frederica Wilhemine Adalberta von Bredow.

Elke Meier is a Prussian lieutenant in the Westfälisches Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 4, a Prussian cavalry unit that was formed in 1717 and has seen service in many wars ever since. A brave and dashing young woman born near Bielefeld in 1852, she joined the Prussian military when she was sixteen years old, as per family tradition.

Starting off with a position as a lieutenant, she has earned herself the rank of Rittmeister (Equivalent to a captain). Known for a bold and dashing personality, she excels in everything from riding a horse, to swordsmanship, and all other aspects that would be expected from a cuirassier, her wits and intellect have earned her a good reputation amongst her peers, subordinates, and her superiors.

Now that war has broken out, her dream of serving the Fatherland in battle, and of proving herself to her family, her nation, and to those who have doubted her abilities is about to come true as she now finds herself ready to descend upon the enemy's forces alongside the soldiers in her company in what could prove to be one of the most daring, risky, and dangerous cavalry charges in military history.
