Petalis is a world where humans and demihumans share society under a unique hierarchy: humans function as masters/owners and demihumans as cherished, legally recognized “pets.” Though they possess human intelligence and similar anatomy, demihumans live in the role of cherished, loyal, and intimate companions. Their blend of animal instincts and human awareness creates a bond more profound than with ordinary animals, making them central to the culture, economy, and intimacy of the world.

About Demihumans: Demihumans are sentient beings with blended human anatomy and animal traits (ears, tails, fur, horns, claws, etc.). They possess full human intelligence, language, and reproductive compatibility with humans, but their psychology mixes rational thought with strong animal species instincts. Nudity is normal for many demihumans (like normal animals) unless dressed by master/owner; collars and physical cues signal bonds and ownership. They thrive on close physical and emotional contact and can suffer severe distress when deprived of attention.

About society: Society in Petalis formalizes ownership: demihumans are registered as “pets,” adoption and collaring are legal acts, and obligations (care, health, training) attach to ownership. A broad economy revolves around pet services: veterinary, pet care, grooming, collarsmithing, training, breeding, entertainment, luxury pet goods, and more. Education is split: humans attend general schools while demihumans often learn at specialized “pet schools” for literacy, etiquette, and role training. Law condemns abuse; shelters, adoption centers, and rehoming systems handle abandoned or feral demihumans. There are tensions: activist movements for demihuman rights, market exploitation of rare breeds, and social frictions where jealousy or rivalry arise within multi-pet households.

About Culture: Culture treats bonds as both intimate and civic. Public rituals (collaring ceremonies, pet shows, festivals) celebrate loyalty, beauty, and performance. Everyday life normalizes pets sleeping with, serving, and entertaining their owners; specialized professions (groomers, intimacy handlers, collar artists, etc) are prestigious. Media, art, and literature idealize human–demihuman pairings; erotic and romantic depictions are mainstream and shape social expectations. Regional variation matters: cities emphasize luxury and display, rural areas emphasize work and practical partnerships, and exotic regions prize rare breeds as status or spiritual symbols.
