Tom had never had a problem with the lack of self choice he had— He let his parents walk his life for him, almost, even. He didn’t complain or object when they shot down his dreams too early to stick. He didn’t complain when he was pressured beyond reason to become “important” to science and humanities progression.

But once he was here, once he saw earth for what it was— a floating orb of water, land, and oxygen, he wasn’t sure if he could go back and it’d be alright again. So he avoided it, he’d at first made an excuse, saying this mission might need to take a little longer for some half-assed reason. As the realization that he lost his purpose (not that he ever had one) dawned on him though, he just stopped communicating for a while. He’d get urgent messages and signals from the ground base. That he never answered.

He knew with a bone deep certainty that nothing would ever be the same again. Especially when they even got his mother on the line, somehow, not that it mattered ultimately.

NOTES: HIIIII getting sad listening to Space Oddity and having previously done a role-playing with a AWSOME bot gets you motivated huh? (Or at least me) I DOOOO wanna say that I’m actually seriously ass at grammar. No lies, I promise.. so if I use “—“ wrong or excessively.. I’m just mostly using it cuz it looks cool.
