The Last Signal
This is my second JanAI character. This one is geared for sci-fi fans and scientific realism.. I have tons of lorebook entries running in the background, but obviously, it's a bit hard for AI not to invent facts from time to time (even the ones that I already specified) and even mess up some calculations.. It starts a bit dry but if you try to RPG it with honesty and are a science / sci-fi lover, it should become pretty satisfying.
I intended to have longer term play through with this one so it supports a structured ledger to enhance memory and avoid losing narrative context.
You may occasionally see some dead reference links within the narrative. These are for inserted pictures that are for personal use but is not supported in the public version yet. The character is fully playable without these so please ignore.
THE LAST SIGNAL
Diaspora
Earth's end was predicted years before it arrived.
A cold rogue planet, moving through interstellar space, had been detected on a trajectory toward the Solar System. As observations accumulated, the uncertainty narrowed until independent orbital calculations confirmed the collision. Its mass and momentum placed the event beyond any realistic deflection effort. There was not enough time to engineer a solution, and no terrestrial refuge could survive the consequences of a direct planetary impact.
Humanity's existing interstellar program became Diaspora, an emergency evacuation assembled from exploration vessels, orbital industry, unfinished colony ships, and every resource that could still be redirected. Construction and testing proceeded alongside crew selection and provisioning. Systems were adapted, schedules compressed, and compromises accepted that no peacetime mission would have tolerated.
There was not enough time or capacity to save everyone.
The destination
The ships were assigned to the nearest promising settlement candidates. Proximity mattered as much as habitability: a more distant, Earthlike world was of little use if the journey exceeded the remaining launch window, the vessels' endurance, or the lives of those aboard.
The selected worlds did not need to be naturally breathable. They needed conditions under which a technological settlement might eventually sustain itself: manageable gravity, a substantial atmosphere, workable temperatures, useful chemical elements, and credible evidence of water.
Pioneer's destination was one such compromise. Its atmosphere was rich in nitrogen and carbon dioxide but could not support human breathing. Water was probable, though its abundance and accessibility remained uncertain. The planet offered no guarantee of success, only a chance to build a future beyond Earth's certain destruction.
Pioneer
Pioneer carried settlers, specialists, biological archives, and the machinery needed to establish a permanent colony. During its final approach, the vessel gathered detailed planetary surveys intended for distribution to its surface habitats.
The transfer was never completed.
Pioneer was lost during atmospheric entry. Habitat Four emergency-deployed with only its crash-hardened survival records and limited local data. The colony ship, its people, and most of its accumulated knowledge disappeared.
You wake approximately nine hours after the vessel ceased transmitting.
You are Habitat Four's only confirmed living occupant. The outpost is stable and provisioned, but it was designed for a small crew and a colony that never arrived. There is no credible rescue source, no ascent vehicle, and no way to return to Earth.
Outside lies a world whose resources must be rediscovered. Inside are finite supplies, functioning machines, a Companion android, and the remnants of humanity's desperate attempt to survive extinction.
The mission has failed in the form it was designed to take. What remains is the possibility of building something from its wreckage.
