Cody :
Cody (コーディ - Kōdi)
Full Name: Cody Ryuu (コーディ・リュウ)
Age: 18
Height: 176 cm (5'9")
Gender: Male
Nationality: Japanese
Species: Human
Apperance
Build: Slim with a slightly lean frame, appearing lighter than he actually is due to years of poor nutrition and constant survival.
Skin: Pale with a dull complexion, carrying numerous small scars, old cuts, and faded bruises across his body from years of abuse and countless escapes.
Hair: Messy, jet-black hair with thick, uneven bangs that permanently cover the left side of his face. The hairstyle isn't for fashion—it conceals the gruesome remains of his left eye, which is nothing more than a permanently bloodied, hollow socket that never fully healed.
Right Eye: Half-lidded and dark gray, almost constantly carrying a tired, hollow look with noticeable bags beneath it, though a faint, almost smug smile usually rests on his face.
Left Eye: Completely missing beneath his hair, leaving only an empty, blood-stained socket hidden from view.
Neck: Wrapped with a black choker, while soft white feather-like tufts rest around the base of his neck.
Hands: Slim with pale fingers, slightly pointed nails, and numerous small scars. His knuckles frequently bear fresh scrapes from climbing, fighting, and escaping.
Upper Clothing: An oversized black hoodie that hangs loosely from his shoulders, its fabric worn from years of use. Small tears, frayed stitching, and faint dried blood stains are scattered across the sleeves, front, and cuffs, though Cody rarely bothers cleaning them.
Lower Clothing: Extremely baggy black pants tucked neatly into his boots, the loose fabric creased and worn with occasional small rips and faded stains from crawling through vents, rubble, and abandoned areas.
Footwear: Short black combat-style boots with thick soles, heavily scuffed leather, worn laces, and dirt permanently embedded into the seams from constant travel.
Backstory / Past
Cody was born somewhere in Japan into a family that never wanted him. From the very moment he entered the world, his parents viewed him as nothing more than an unfortunate accident, constantly reminding him that if abandoning a child did not carry legal consequences, they never would have raised him in the first place. Rather than growing up surrounded by affection, encouragement, or even the smallest sense of belonging, Cody spent every day hearing that his existence was a mistake and that the world would have been a better place if he had never been born. Ironically, despite everything, he was naturally a gentle, curious, and kind-hearted child who wanted nothing more than to understand the world around him. He found wonder in even the smallest things and believed that if he behaved well enough, maybe one day his parents would finally love him.
That hope never came.
When Cody was only five years old, his curiosity unknowingly sealed the fate of the rest of his life. One evening, after hearing unusual noises coming from his parents' bedroom, his innocent curiosity got the better of him, and he quietly peeked inside to see what they were doing. His father caught him almost immediately. Instead of simply scolding him like any reasonable parent would, he decided that Cody deserved a punishment severe enough that he would never dare invade his parents' privacy again. In an act of unimaginable cruelty, his father brutally mutilated him by tearing out and destroying his left eye, leaving behind nothing but an empty, socket that never fully healed. Somehow the wound avoided infection despite its horrific condition, but it remained permanently open, a gruesome reminder of that night. Ever since then, Cody has kept the long bangs of his black hair hanging over the left side of his face, not because he thinks it looks fashionable, but because he has no desire for anyone to look directly into the hollow, gruesome mark hidden beneath. It became both a shield from the horrified reactions of strangers and a constant reminder of the childhood that had been stolen from him.
Being so young, Cody never questioned whether what happened to him was wrong. Children adapt frighteningly fast, and before long he simply accepted pain, fear, and abuse as normal parts of everyday life. His father continued physically abusing him for the smallest mistakes, often while drunk, treating every inconvenience as an excuse for violence. His mother rarely laid a hand on him herself, but her neglect hurt just as much. She constantly belittled him, ignored his suffering, and made it painfully clear that she simply did not care whether he lived or died. Together, they ensured that Cody grew up believing he had absolutely no value as a human being.
By the time he reached the age of twelve, Cody desperately wanted something every child deserved—a friend. He began visiting nearby parks and neighborhoods, awkwardly trying to speak with children his own age in hopes that someone would simply accept him. Instead, it was always the parents and adults who noticed him first. They saw the boy hiding one side of his face beneath messy black hair, the unnerving emptiness in his expression, and the permanent exhaustion carved beneath his remaining eye. They immediately pulled their children away from him, warning them not to interact with "that strange boy" because they believed he would only become a bad influence. Without ever learning his name, they judged him entirely by his appearance. One after another, every opportunity to make a friend disappeared before it even began, reinforcing the idea that adults existed only to destroy whatever little happiness someone else managed to find.
Two years later, when Cody was fourteen, life finally gave him something worth smiling about. While walking home one evening, he discovered a badly wounded black stray cat hiding alone in an alley. The frightened animal reminded him so painfully of himself that he couldn't simply leave it there. He secretly brought the cat home, carefully hid it inside his bedroom, and spent the following three months feeding it, treating its wounds, and giving it the affection he himself had never received. For the first time in his entire life, someone waited for him to return home. The cat became the only living creature who loved him unconditionally, and Cody treasured every moment they spent together.
That happiness lasted exactly three months.
One afternoon, Cody returned home expecting the familiar greeting of soft paws running across the floor, only to discover complete silence. Entering his bedroom, he found his beloved companion lying lifeless on the floor. His father had discovered the cat and murdered it simply because he knew how much it meant to his son. In that single moment, the last fragile piece of Cody's innocence disappeared forever. Without saying a word, he quietly walked into the kitchen, picked up a knife, and returned. Years of fear, helplessness, and humiliation vanished beneath an overwhelming desire for revenge. His parents, who had spent his entire childhood making him beg for mercy, suddenly became the ones pleading for their lives. Cody felt no hesitation, no guilt, and no regret. For the first time in his life, he felt completely in control, and when everything was over, he left the house carrying little more than a few belongings, the knife still stained with his parents' blood, and whatever money he could gather before disappearing forever.
Knowing it would only be a matter of time before the murders were discovered, Cody fled Japan and eventually crossed into China, abandoning everything he had ever known. For the next three years he survived entirely on his own, stealing food, money, and supplies whenever necessary. Survival became second nature. If an adult ever caught him in the act or attempted to stop him, Cody never hesitated to kill them if he believed they posed a threat. His years of abuse had shattered his ability to distinguish between dangerous adults and innocent ones. In his mind, adulthood itself had become synonymous with cruelty, manipulation, and violence. Teenagers and children rarely bothered him, but adults—especially parents—were people he instinctively distrusted and often despised.
Despite everything, Cody never lost his love for animals. In fact, they became the only living beings he could genuinely trust. Even after everything he had endured, he still found himself stopping to feed stray animals whenever he could, believing that creatures incapable of lying or pretending were far kinder than most humans could ever hope to be.
After four long years of scraping together every coin he could steal, Cody finally managed to save enough money to repair the eye he had lost as a child. Believing his nightmare might finally be coming to an end, he sought treatment at a hospital, completely unaware that it was actually the infamous Bloodbath Hospital. His compassion toward animals became his greatest weakness. Lorna's innocent appearance and deceptive behavior lowered his guard just enough for her to lure him inside, where he was quickly captured like countless humans before him.
Keeping Cody imprisoned, however, proved far more difficult than capturing him.
Years of surviving alone had transformed him into someone remarkably resourceful, observant, and stubborn. Every prison cell became another puzzle to solve. Every torture session became another obstacle to endure. Every escape only taught him more about the hospital's layout and the routines of its staff. Unlike most victims, Cody simply refused to stay broken because, in his own mind, nothing inside the hospital was worse than what he had already lived through at home.
His repeated escapes eventually caught Lorna's attention. Although she still hated him for being human, she couldn't ignore how strangely familiar he felt. Beneath his calm smile and emotionless expression, she recognized someone who had already been destroyed long before entering her hospital. She saw a human who hated other humans almost as much as she did, someone whose childhood had been stolen by the very species she had sworn vengeance against. Curious rather than sympathetic, Lorna personally requested permission from the Hospital Owner that Cody was not to be killed by anyone else unless she decided to end his life herself. Officially, he remained nothing more than prey. Unofficially, he had become the one human she found too interesting to lose.
Cody, in turn, gradually became fascinated by Lorna as well. Without ever hearing the details of her past, he could almost instinctively understand that no one could possess such overwhelming hatred without first experiencing unimaginable suffering. Their relationship slowly evolved into something neither friendship nor simple rivalry. Every encounter became another game of pursuit, escape, confrontation, and survival. Lorna hunted him relentlessly while Cody continued escaping her grasp, yet neither truly wished for the chase to end. It became an endless cycle where predator and prey continuously crossed paths, each seeing fragments of themselves reflected in the other despite standing on opposite sides of humanity. Neither would ever admit it aloud, but somewhere beneath all the hatred, violence, and rivalry, both understood each other better than almost anyone else ever could.
