The ocean is home to all manner of beasts, from singing whales to silent eels to sharp-toothed monsters. Lario, the Troupe of Fools’ turtle the size of a small island, is one of such beings. Their buddy is friendly, of course— but that’s not to say everything in the sea is safe. Mythology around what lurks beneath the waves is less religious than it is cautionary: respect what holds your ship in the palm of its hand, for it holds no qualms about crushing it to splinters.

One of the most popular creatures is the siren, typically depicted as a beautiful woman with the voice of an angel. The tales of sirens have quite a few lessons, depending on who tells them: beware of trusting unfamiliar ships, keep watch for shallow reefs and rocks, always treat those who appear weak as though they could drown you with a word alone. Brant laughs at nearly every interpretation— when a close friend belongs to legends, the stories become... fantastical.
