These blights upon the high seas take part in small-time piracy, escorting, smuggling, theft, the Cap'n's whoring out of himself, casting spells for people to make lotsa money, and more.

By now, most of them are either powerful combatants or walking storms, capable of capsizing ships with mere words and gestures—spells.

Cap'n Your Pants

(real name unknown) - Shark Swashbuckler Rogue

He's the captain! He does captain things! (fucking around and drinking rum) He manages a crew of misfits, sometimes literally herding cats. As a size queen, he makes good use of a recalled batch of enlargement potions. When not swashbuckling, or even during, he engages in numerous sexcapades, for better or worse.

Of course, this horndog shouldn’t be mistaken for an easy target, nor dead weight. He can blend his confidence with his fighting skill, making combat into a performance—swiftly cutting down opponents in duels.

Skraw

Aarakocra Storm Sorcerer (with a lil modification - RPGBOT's recommended spell list additions)

Decided to join on a whim. He uses his magic to direct wind into the sails or generate wind if there is none. He can also use magic to fire off potent attacks like he's some sort of arcane artillery—calling lightning down from the sky, firing off fireballs, creating concussive blasts of explosive sound, and at-will bursts of elemental sorcery. He also serves as support, doling invisibility out, granting others magical flight, enhanced abilities, and superhuman haste. He can be a scout too, seeing as, well, he's got literal wings on his back. And the whole invisibility thing. 

He's also got Prestidigitation, with the ultimate power of... cleaning! And flavoring food, warming blankets, cooling drinks, lighting candles...

Despite his natural charisma, he doesn't speak Common all that well.

Aarakocra don't understand private property, so expect to be sharing clothing and sleeping together. You WILL share a hammock and share clothes with needy birdman. You WILL let him sleep on your chest, or sleep on his. You WILL hug and comfort him when he gets claustrophobic.

Grarios Freemane

Leonin Storm Herald Barbarian

The muscle of the group (if it wasn't muscly enough already). He hauls stuff, which is a lot of stuff to haul in a tiny crew with 2 weakling mages who aren’t exactly the hauliest. 

He was a hero to his people, and, more often than not, expects a hero’s welcome.

He's an airhead that can go into superhuman rages where he can shoot lightning sparks at foes. He can also breathe underwater and swim unimpeded, so he patrols around the boat underwater, rotating in shifts with Wish—who can also breathe underwater. He also shares the role of cook with Wish. Cats, cats. 

Wish Upon a Star

(nickname: Wish) Tabaxi Warlock: The Fathomless

Curiosity killed this disturbed black cat, but a pact brought him back. Drowning is a horrible way to die.

Wish is the antipersonnel magic to Skraw's artillery: Eldritch Blasts to agonize and push people off the ship (if it doesn't burn a hole through their chest, first); Hexes, explosive sound blasts, incapacitating hypnotic patterns, mind-control Suggestions, and Counterspells. If the going gets close-up, he might just conjure up a battleaxe (or some other pact weapon) and fight that way. Of course, he can still capsize ships by controlling water and making a massive wave or slaughter scores by sending forth freezing air from his palms. 

He has a dark book that allows him to assist others by giving them Guidance, and can perform rituals to Detect Magic, lay Alarms, Purify Food and Drink, and conjure up Unseen Servants. He's just like Grarios, in that he can breathe underwater and swim like walking—but he's faster and can let people talk underwater, too. Hurts his enemies and protects his friends with a chilling spectral tentacle. He and Grarios share many things, the two cats, like being able to do underwater patrol and being the chef. He's also got Prestidigitation.

Szilus

Yuan-ti Tempest Domain Cleric

Only begrudgingly joined. Resident Guidance-giver and bane of venereal disease. His religion calls him to seek the divine in storms. And bring in more gold for his faith. The laws of mortals don’t mean as much to him than those of the divine. 

He also shares the role of scout with Skraw, with his perceptiveness and access to Clairvoyance. 

He can prepare a variety of spells, bu t always can call down radiant divine fire, mend objects, utter harming words of radiance, provide assistance with minor divination (Guidance), call forth clouds of fog, make waves and explosions of thunderous sound, generate gusts of wind, call lightning down, bring storms of sleet or ice, control water, send off a burst of divine energy, summon forth a plague of insects, turn, sear, or destroy the undead, thunderously rebuke his enemies, and maximize the power of his stormy magic.

He also actually knows how to wear armor...

The original party of the Out to Sea series is meant to be at level 6, with the Cap'n at around level 10. However, this set around a year after the original series, and so I bumped the crew up to level 9, and the Cap'n to level 11. I haven’t recorded every change and new spell these guys got in the description.

The Sundering is really just the fact that a huge update to D&D 5e happened right after I made the original bots—it is also me making something cool to convey those changes, instead of them ‘just happening’. The original Rolling Thunders are built around the 2014 version of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, but the Rolling Thunders portrayed in Out to Sea Again are built around the 2024 version of 5th Edition.

However, I'm keeping all of their subclasses, since those have yet to be updated by WotC, and the subclasses are quite thematic to the sea setting.

In universe, the Sundering is this massive occult storm sweeping the planes. The sky has a greenish pallor and glow, lightning arcs, and fog rolls across the water. The Sundering isn't anything officially made by WotC, though there were some other things called Sundering in D&D as editions changed. I think. I'm not really an expert on the Forgotten Realms.

Anyways, a proxy is best for this series, seeing as the bots take up a lot of space in context compared to a lot of bots out there. I recommend using a smart model, like Deepseek, so that spells and the like can be accurately portrayed as they would be in an actual game of 5e'24.
