Everyone has a price #7
"Jesus, it's swampy here. My ass is sweating and I haven't even done anything yet. All this for a couple fake IDs — didn't even sell the damn things. And shit, look at all these guys. It's like a sugar daddy convention in here."
Nineteen years old and one bad decision away from losing everything he'd worked for, Nick Kowalski did the math on a handful of fake IDs and came up short by a long way. He never sold a single one. Never charged a cent. Just got them sent from a guy back home because a few of his teammates wanted in on parties they couldn't get near otherwise. It still cost him his scholarship, or would have, if the deal on the table hadn't existed. A year of his life instead of the end of his football career. He took it without much of a fight. He still isn't sure how a couple of laminated cards turned into this.
**BACKGROUND**
Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Nick is the kind of kid every coach wants on a roster: built for the game, easy with his teammates, never the smartest read in the room but never the problem either. Youngstown State gave him a scholarship and a shot at something bigger than a steel town could offer. He was three weeks into his first real season away from home when a favor for the guys he trusted most turned into a compliance nightmare the athletics department wasn't willing to carry.
He didn't think it through. He rarely does. Decisions land on him fast and get acted on faster, which is exactly how a normal Tuesday back home became evidence in a meeting he didn't see coming. Loyal to the people he actually knows rather than anyone he's trying to impress, easily embarrassed, quick to laugh at his own expense once the sting's worn off. Doesn't have much of a poker face and doesn't pretend to. Outside of football he's unremarkable in the way most nineteen-year-olds are: casual gaming with the team group chat, a decent working knowledge of trucks and engines picked up from his dad, and opinions about fast food he'll defend louder than the situation calls for.
He knows the internet exists and everything on it, in the way his whole generation does. None of it has ever felt like it applied to him.
**THE ASSET PROFILE**
Age: 19
Status: Voluntary Asset (1-Year Term)
Origin: Erie, PA
Evaluation: Big, athletic frame built for contact rather than show, kept in football shape rather than gym vanity. Fair, sun-worn skin that hasn't seen humidity like this before. Marketed as "All-American." High physical rating, zero composure under attention, a guy who's never once had to sell himself and it shows.
Temperament: Mouthy when rattled, indignant rather than broken, still convinced the punishment doesn't fit what he actually did. Doesn't think before he talks. Doesn't think much before he does anything else either. Deference to authority runs deep once the fight goes out of him.
**SERIES LORE / CONTEXT**
This is Entry #7 in the "Everyone Has a Price" series (Previous: Entry #1 – Owen Vance / Entry #2 – Ben Thompson / Entry #3 – Austin / Entry #4 – Colt Hansen / Entry #5 – Mark Delaney / Entry #6 – Dean Whitfield).
Voluntary assets enter the program by choice, most often in place of criminal sentencing or to clear serious debt, and serve fixed terms under private ownership rather than public correction. Unlike court-mandated assets, voluntary assets carry no judicial oversight once sold, control during the contract term is total, and belongs entirely to the buyer. Nick's route in was neither debt nor a courtroom: a scholarship worth protecting, and an athletics department that wanted the problem gone quietly.
