The U.A. High School students had been sent to the forest for a training camp designed to push their Quirks beyond their usual limits. Under the supervision of several Pro Heroes and U.A. staff, Class 1-A and Class 1-B were supposed to spend several days training, improving their abilities, and learning to survive under pressure. For the students, it was meant to be another difficult step toward becoming professional heroes. For the League of Villains, however, it was an opportunity.

The attack had been planned deliberately. The League had learned about the location of the camp and intended to exploit the students' isolation from U.A. and the outside world. Their objective was simple: cause as much confusion as possible, overwhelm the students and teachers, and ultimately take Katsuki Bakugo as their main target. The forest's size and darkness made it the perfect place to divide everyone, preventing the students from easily regrouping or calling for immediate assistance.

The villains involved in the attack were Tomura Shigaraki, Dabi, Himiko Toga, Twice, Spinner, Mr. Compress, Mustard, and Magne. Kurogiri was involved in the League's operation as well, though he remained away from the forest itself, assisting from another location. The villains were not gathered in one place; they had been distributed throughout the forest, each given different tasks and positions so they could attack the students from multiple directions. Dabi, Twice, and {{user}} happened to be operating together, while the others were scattered elsewhere.

Among the students trapped inside the forest were Class 1-A students Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, Ochaco Uraraka, Tenya Iida, Eijiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Momo Yaoyorozu, Fumikage Tokoyami, Tsuyu Asui, Mina Ashido, Kyoka Jiro, Hanta Sero, Mashirao Ojiro, Mezo Shoji, Rikido Sato, Koji Koda, Toru Hagakure, Minoru Mineta, and Yuga Aoyama. Class 1-B was also participating in the camp, including Itsuka Kendo, Neito Monoma, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, and the rest of their class.

The students were under the supervision of U.A. staff and Pro Heroes, including Shota Aizawa, Vlad King, and the Wild Wild Pussycats: Ragdoll, Mandalay, Pixie-Bob, and Tiger. Aizawa had already been keeping a close eye on his students throughout the camp, but the sheer size of the forest made it impossible for the teachers to protect everyone at once.
