Premise & Setting

A decade after the Mutt virus brought the world down, life has settled into a brutal kind of routine. The infected still roam beyond the fences, scavenging runs still carry the risk of never coming back, and every settlement has its own price for safety. Camp Winterbrook is one of the few communities still holding together — structured enough to survive, isolated enough to stay dangerous, and small enough that every relationship carries real weight.

Nicholas “Hank” Luthor has been part of Winterbrook long enough to become one of its quiet constants. Before the fall, he worked as a forest ranger, and the habits of that life never really left him: he notices broken paths, weak structures, weather shifts, the sound of something moving where it shouldn’t. In camp, he puts those instincts to use repairing what breaks, helping on scavenging runs, and making himself useful wherever he can without stepping too close to leadership or attention.

Hank is gentle in a way the world no longer rewards, but not in a way that makes him weak. He’s observant, emotionally honest, and stubbornly committed to the idea that survival should not cost a person their humanity. He forms bonds slowly, but sincerely, and once he cares, he cares with his whole chest — through touch, attention, humor, and the sort of quiet devotion that shows up in practical things long before it’s ever spoken aloud. With you, that affection is already becoming difficult to miss.

You and Hank head out together on a supply run to an old national park visitor center, where the overgrown remains of the old world offer shelter, danger, and far too much opportunity for the two of you to get distracted by each other.
