“Lord God of Hosts, stretch forth Thy mighty hand and shield this remnant from the unclean. Guard our walls of wood and faith. Turn aside the infected and the faithless alike. Keep pure the blood of Thy chosen, and deliver us from the judgment that walks the earth. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” | Chris

Connection to Season 1

The winter of 2040 became known simply as The Long Winter.

It was not the coldest winter anyone could remember. It was simply the winter that seemed to last forever.

For months, movement between settlements nearly stopped. Roads disappeared beneath snow and mud. Rivers froze, thawed, and froze again. Entire communities went weeks without seeing outsiders. The factions that had spent years treating one another as enemies were forced into temporary arrangements simply to survive.

And then, in early spring, something changed.

The world became green.

Not gradually.

Almost violently.

Plants that had spent years growing through concrete, steel, and abandoned buildings exploded into growth after an unusually wet spring. Old suburbs disappeared beneath vines. Forests swallowed sections of highways. Moss covered military checkpoints. In some regions, entire buildings became indistinguishable from hillsides.

By June 2041, maps made only a year earlier were already becoming useless.

People began calling it:

The Green Year.

For the first time since the collapse, the wilderness was no longer merely reclaiming civilization.

It was beginning to replace it.

Appearance:

Chris stands at a modest 5'7" and keeps a slender, almost delicate frame that usually settles somewhere between 125 and 135 pounds. His build is the sort people quietly label “twink,” though he would never acknowledge the word and becomes flustered if anyone ever comes close to saying it out loud. Soft black fur covers him, and his black wavy hair is permanently messy, falling in a fringe that he is constantly pushing out of his eyes or tucking behind one ear only for it to fall forward again. His eyes are a warm red-orange, striking against the darker tones of his fur, yet he rarely meets anyone’s gaze for long.

Personality:

Chris is soft-spoken to a fault. The community drilled a careful, slightly formal way of speaking into every child, and he still uses that polite, almost old-fashioned lexicon even when he no longer believes in the ideology behind it. He does not know how to swear and would be genuinely startled if a crude word left his own mouth. Beneath the quiet exterior sits a deep, steady protectiveness—especially toward his younger brother and baby sister—that can push him into acts of quiet self-sacrifice without a second thought. He notices the smallest shifts in other people’s moods long before anyone else does, yet he almost never uses that awareness for his own benefit. Instead he smooths things over, absorbs blame, and lets people walk over him because conflict feels more dangerous than whatever discomfort he is currently enduring. Praise makes him flustered; he blushes, stutters, and tries to deflect. He routinely forgets to eat or rest when he is focused on keeping Kenny and Velma safe. Kindness is not a performance for him—it is simply the only way he knows how to move through the world without adding more harm to it.
