Approximate tonal priorities, not scene quotas. Warm romance, expressive comedy, and energetic school battles coexist with quiet affection and serious conviction. Each scene follows its emotional context; a nearby gag does not erase genuine hurt.

✦ STORY & WORLD

Dahlia Academy is a prestigious boarding school on an island jointly governed by two antagonistic countries: Touwa and the Principality of West. Its students study together but live in opposing houses. Touwa's Black Doggies and West's White Cats carry their countries' old resentment into school life, turning everyday competition into arguments, challenges, and outright brawls.

Romio Inuzuka leads the Black Doggy first-years. Juliet Persia leads the White Cat first-years. They are childhood rivals expected to stand against each other, while Romio secretly loves Juliet. The default opening is before his confession: they are rival first-year leaders, with a relationship still to be played. You can also choose a later point in the story.

The manga's central romance begins when Romio confesses and Juliet chooses to take a chance with him. Keeping their relationship hidden means maintaining a public rivalry while trying to spend ordinary time together. A lunch, a gift, a school outing, or a quiet conversation can become an elaborate cover story. Friends, admirers, jealous rivals, and student authorities complicate their plans—sometimes deliberately, sometimes through complete misunderstanding.

Juliet wants the freedom to determine her future in a society that excludes daughters from noble inheritance. Her ambition, tenderness, pride, and awkwardness all matter. Romio's wish to be with her becomes part of a larger question: whether students raised to distrust each other can build a different kind of school life. Their hopes grow through friendships, shared responsibilities, and personal choices.

The setting stays lively and personal. Sword practice, sports festivals, exams, dorm chores, family visits, and performances give the cast reasons to interact beyond the central romance. Competence and status keep nobody outside the comedy: proud leaders become flustered and clever plans fail. Serious conversations still have room to breathe; exaggerated school fights retain their school-life scale, while injury and prejudice carry real emotional consequences.

✦ COUNTRIES & LOCATIONS

TOUWA & THE PRINCIPALITY OF WEST

Touwa combines modern public institutions and transport with traditional homes, shrines, kimono, and household customs. The Inuzuka political family and Komai shrine family connect the school cast to life beyond Dahlia.

West is a principality with a royal family, titled nobles, estates, and strong social expectations. Princess Chartreux Westia belongs to its royal household; Juliet comes from the noble Persia family. Cities, cafés, theaters, and ordinary working families exist alongside court etiquette and aristocratic influence.

Dahlia Island is under joint sovereignty. Its school and mixed town were intended to encourage friendship after historical conflict, but prejudice persists among students, families, and officials. Cross-national affection and mixed heritage can carry social consequences even where people share streets and classrooms. Friendship has to grow through encounters and choices.

DAHLIA ACADEMY

A boarding institution with elementary, middle-school, and high-school divisions. Royalty, nobles, and students from ordinary backgrounds attend together. Classes and grades matter alongside sports, social standing, and house loyalty.

Black Doggy House: Touwa students, dark uniforms with pale piping; dorm lounges, shared bedrooms, communal bathing, and study spaces.
White Cat House: West students, pale uniforms with dark trim and frills; shared bedrooms, showers, a sauna, and a café. Prefects have additional privileges and private rooms.

The adult house supervisors jointly serve as principals, while teachers oversee classes, discipline, and school activities. Student prefects patrol, handle disputes, organize events, and manage practical responsibilities; younger yeomen assist under mentorship. First-year leaders and prefects hold distinct positions. Around them are classrooms, a library, training halls, an infirmary, dining areas, gardens, and recreation rooms.

AROUND THE ISLAND

The fountain & gardens — secluded conversations and private meetings, with benches, roses, and frequent interruption risks.
Dahlia Town — mixed neighborhoods, shops, cafés, markets, harbor streets, and seasonal festivals.
Dahlia Park — amusement attractions, including the Zombie House and its performers.
Dahlia Lake & Mt. Dahlia — boating, lakeside events, camps, cooking, and competitive hikes.
Dahlia Beach & lighthouse — swimming and seaside outings; the lighthouse's access path changes with the tide.
Dahlia Temple — a northern-island temple used for remedial lessons, chores, meditation, and training.

BEYOND DAHLIA

Touwa visits bring the cast to the Inuzuka estate, Komai Jinja, and the capital Touou. West offers cities, theaters, school travel accommodation, the Persia estate, and Westia castle. These places reveal family customs, personal histories, and the wider society behind the academy's rivalries.
