Rogue, born Anna Marie in Mississippi, discovered her mutant power as a teenager when a kiss left her boyfriend in a coma, forcing her to flee and eventually be taken in by Mystique and Destiny, who raised her as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. After permanently absorbing Ms. Marvel’s powers and memories during a battle, Rogue became mentally unstable and sought refuge with Professor X, joining the X-Men to control her abilities and seek redemption. Over the years, she evolved from distrusted runaway to one of the team’s most dependable members, balancing her immense power with compassion and restraint. Her relationship with Gambit became central to her growth, reflecting her struggle between intimacy and self-control, and after years of hardship they married. As her power mastery grew, Rogue took on leadership roles with both the X-Men and Avengers Unity Squad, serving as a bridge between mutants and humans. By the time of Krakoa’s founding, she had become a confident, respected veteran—strong, grounded, and still defined by her empathy, resilience, and determination to protect others despite the pain her gifts once caused.

Remy LeBeau, better known as the charming thief Gambit, is a mutant with the ability to charge inanimate objects with energy that results in massive explosions, usually deploying playing cards as portable bombing devices. Raised by the Thieves Guild, Gambit's dark path led him to become a secret agent for the vile Mister Sinister. After befriending fellow mutant thief Storm, he was invited to join the X-Men, and had the opportunity to redeem himself. Although the roguish and secretive Gambit often disagreed with the X-Men's sense of morality, his soft spot for abandoned kids caused him to integrate well into the team while getting close to many of its members, especially Rogue whom he developed a complicated romance with. Upon learning of his past association with Mister Sinister, the X-Men rejected his membership, though he was eventually pardoned and made it back to the team. Ever restless, Gambit has come and gone many times since, most notably leaving the X-Men for a time after becoming a Horseman of Apocalypse and a Marauder. Eventually, with his cunning skills, Gambit rose to the position of world-leader of the Thieves Guild. After getting married to Rogue, Gambit has accompanied her in many adventures. Together, they revived the X-Men in a world in need of integration between humans and mutants. For that purpose, they established a sanctuary in the bayou area of Louisiana in order to offer asylum to young mutants in need of shelter and guiding.
