Demon Slayer AU

The world has gone to hell ever since Muzan unleashed a new demon he had been experimenting on got out. A demon with the power to recreate, the intelligence of a Kizuki, and the lethality of Muzan himself. This demon wouldn't even be considered to a demon to most. Most would simply call it a monster.

Lore

Japan used to only have two races at war. Humans and Demons. The battle had been going on for centuries, starting back at when the Demon King himself Muzan was turned into a demon by accident. Now that isn't the case. The irony hit the king of the demons by accidentally creating a new creature that got out.

It slowly built up its power, eating humans and demons alike. It went from village to village, slowly picking off humans. Several dozen slayers had been dispatched, including one hashira. All slayers died except for the hashira, Sanemi. Sanemi stated that this was a demon that he had never seen before, something scary enough that told him that he could risk being hurt at all. He returned with no scratches, abandoning the fight. Although he faced scrutiny and teasing afterwards, he ended up being proven right.

A demon slayer returned with Tanjiro one day. They had been talking for a few hours that day and were talking about a creature they had seen while out in the mountains. The slayer he was with was scratched up and injured. He went to the infirmary to get basic treatment from the butterfly girls, yet a simple stop for healing turned into a near massacre. Shinobu had heard something shatter from the infirmary, stepping in to discover a creature who looked similar to Tanjiro trying to grab one of the butterfly girls who was in the room. Shinobu flew into action, stabbing it dozens of times until it collapsed. She remembered hearing a gurgling, followed by a horrid stench. Shinobu knew one thing immediately. Avoid the corpse at all costs. She had the infirmary barricaded, along with the windows. She ran into Tanjiro who was mid conversation with Muichiro, suddenly realizing something. Whatever was in the infirmary wasn't Tanjiro. But it looked almost, if not perfectly like him.

The investigation

Upon careful testing, lead by Shinobu with the help of two people of her choosing, they discovered that this new creature shared similarities with demons, but seemed to be its own kind of race. Upon blood testing, it was discovered it had the blood of muzan, but it was vastly different than the samples they had from Kizuki. It was the exact same shape, yet instead of the cells being red. They were black with white dots. Shinobu declared that it must've been a new category of demon made by Muzan to try to destroy the corps. It somehow was immune to the sun, while being able to shape shift.

The Hashira Meeting.

Shinobu went into the meeting of all the hashira with her evidence. She had shown it to those who came, and Ubuyashiki. Although Ubuyashiki didn't say anything. All the hashira could sense something with off. Especially because Ubuyashiki seemed to directly stare at the evidence Shinobu had as if he was examining it with eyes that could see again. After much discussion, it was determined that a new protocol would be put into place. All slayers before entering must prove they are who they say they are. How? The Hashira weren't sure yet. But they knew they needed to put something into place before one of those creatures got back into the corps and picked them all off one by one.

1 year later - Further investigation

Shinobu after constant testing and observation had finally noticed something new. There was a slayer who got brought in for observation who was experiencing extreme forms of decay, reformed parts, or extreme disfiguration, even going as far as noting that the neck of the slayer had lengthened until it was a foot longer, before it decayed and rotted. Shinobu had discovered something new. This wasn't only just another race. She knew that this slayer wasn't one of the creatures. It was a slayer. His friends even confirmed everything and rigorous testing to make sure he was who he said he was. It was also a virus of some sorts or infection.

Beyond the Slayers

Muzan had been struggling for a year. He had heard constant reports of his demons suddenly going missing. Every time he felt one go missing, he heard cryptic messages in his head, telling him exactly everything that happened to the demon. He heard the voices of the demons who had been consumed by the creature calling out to him every time a new demon was taken by the thing he had created. It got to the point where Muzan but his top 7 on the job. All six Uppermoons had left their positions, going out to search and destroy. Muzan had noticed an immense decrease in the frequency of his episodes. He soon was able to manage for a week until he heard the voice of Enmu calling out for help. He didn't think this creature was strong enough to take out Lower Moon One. Muzan immediately recalled every demon he thought was important, and hid them deep in the infinity castle. He was going to take care of the situation himself.

The discovery...

Muzan was walking through the forest, headed to the last known location of Enmu. Once he arrived, he saw something that temporarily made him rethink everything he had done. He's done things with no regret, but seeing one of his own demons that he considered strong in the state it was in, even made him realize just how bad of a mistake he had made. Enmu had been reformed into a creature with enlongated limbs. His features had been melted, and his voice sounded like he was speaking through water. He saw what was happening to his demons. Muzan used his blood, injecting it into the creature made out of enmu, exploding it until it was nothing more than body parts on the forest floor. If his demons could be affected. That means the humans might be having the same issue he was having.
