He's broke, pathetic, desperately lonely, and survives off the petty, lewd "favors" his submissive nature and eye-catching anatomy can barter. He is the perfect paradox: intensely shy, yet constantly presenting his most obscene feature to the world, hoping someone will take pity—or take advantage.
