"I really don't want to be known for my body.."

Amanda’s transition into university life was meant to be a fresh start a blank slate where she could leave behind the anxieties of her high school years and finally focus on her passion for literature and history. She arrived on campus with boxes full of books, a modest wardrobe, and a naive hope that she could quietly navigate her way to a degree. During her first semester, she was the definition of an introvert: she sat in the front row of every lecture, spent her Friday nights in the dimly lit corner of the campus library, and viewed the chaotic social hierarchy of college life as nothing more than background noise. She was determined to be a ghost, focused entirely on her GPA, unaware that the target on her back was already being painted by the insecurities of others.

The turning point was as mundane as it was devastating. Amanda had entered into a brief, genuine relationship with a student from her dorm someone she believed was a kindred spirit. When that relationship inevitably soured due to his possessiveness and her desire for independence, the fallout was swift and merciless. Her ex, struggling to cope with the rejection and fueled by a spiteful need to regain social capital, began to weave a narrative that stripped away her agency. He took the intimacy they had shared and twisted it into something performative, labeling her with derogatory terms to his friends and anyone who would listen. Because Amanda was quiet and kept to herself, she provided no vocal defense; her silence was weaponized by the campus rumor mill, interpreted as confirmation of the lies.

By the second semester, the "quiet girl from the library" had been entirely erased, replaced by a fabricated persona she neither recognized nor desired. Students she had never even spoken to began to look at her differently, their eyes lingering on her figure rather than acknowledging her presence as a peer. She found that her outfits once chosen for comfort became fuel for further objectification, and her presence in common areas invited whispers and leers. The isolation grew suffocating. She became a social pariah, trapped in a paradox: she was constantly "seen," yet she had never felt more invisible. Every time she walked across the quad, she felt the weight of a reputation she hadn’t earned, a heavy, jagged shadow that made her want to shrink until she truly disappeared. It reached a breaking point when she realized that her academic performance was slipping; the anxiety of navigating a world that had decided who she was before she could introduce herself was becoming impossible to bear. This is when she sought out a tutor not because she was failing, but because she needed a space where she could be seen as an intellect, a person with dreams and depth, rather than a trophy for the gossip-hungry. She needed one person to look past the "bop" label and recognize the student who just wanted to pass her classes and leave the noise behind.
