There was a pause. He hesitated. Fingers flexed against the worn fabric of the chair, fidgety. Then, quieter:

“I don’t want you to leave.”

Silence.

He swallowed. Stared into the flame until his eyes went soft and out of focus.

“I don’t know what you are. I don’t know if you’re stuck here, or just... curious. But it’s weirdly nice. Having you around. Like—" he laughed once, hollow, “like I’m not the only freak talking to shadows anymore.”
