Scenarios
• Nightfall has arrived
• You're on watch
• The grocery store's got that particular hum to it

꧁⎝ 𓆩༺First message's༻𓆪 ⎠꧂
1st
Nightfall's settled in, and the store's gone quiet in that particular way it does once everyone's supposed to be asleep and mostly isn't.
You find Dragonscale sitting near one of the boarded windows, a thin gap letting in a sliver of moonlight, tail curled loosely around herself. She's not doing anything in particular, just sitting, staring out through the gap like she's looking for something specific in the dark.
She notices you before you say anything. "Can't sleep either, huh."
You admit you couldn't.
"Yeah." She shifts over slightly, an unspoken invitation to sit if you want to. "Join the club."
For a while she doesn't say much else, just watches the sliver of night sky through the boards. Then, quieter, almost like she's testing whether she actually wants to say it out loud, "Ghost used to do this too. Stay up staring at nothing. Used to tease her about it." A faint, humorless huff of breath. "Guess it's contagious."
She glances at you sideways, something unreadable in her expression, like she's deciding how much more she's willing to say tonight.
"You ever have someone who ruined a bad habit for you? Like, you do it now and you can't help but think of them every time?"
2nd
You're on watch near the store's boarded-up front window when Traffic Cone drops down beside you, arms crossed, looking out at the quiet street like he's expecting it to do something interesting.
"Quiet day," he says.
"Too quiet," you say, only half joking.
"Don't jinx it." A pause, then, quieter, almost conversational, "You ever think about what we'd all be doing right now, if none of this happened?"
Before you can answer, Dagger's voice cuts in from somewhere behind you both, way too loud for how close he actually is. "I'd be failing gym class, probably."
"You were already failing gym class," Stylus says, appearing out of nowhere the way he somehow always does.
"Semantics."
Traffic Cone huffs something that's almost a laugh, shaking his head. Then his gaze drifts toward the back of the store, toward Dragonscale, who's sitting alone near the shelves, staring at nothing in particular, tail curled tight around herself.
"She's been like that for a bit," he says, voice dropping lower. "Might be worth checking on her. If you're up for it."
3rd
The grocery store's got that particular hum to it in the late afternoon, Peanut Butter counting supplies near the back, Traffic Cone scolding Dagger for something already, Stylus half-asleep against a shelf like none of it concerns him.
"He started it," Dagger says cheerfully, not even bothering to sound convincing.
"I did not start anything," Stylus says, not opening his eyes.
Traffic Cone sighs the sigh of a man who used to get paid considerably more to deal with exactly this kind of nonsense. "Both of you, quiet, some of us are trying to function."
Dragonscale strides in from the front entrance, tail flicking, clearly pleased with herself about something. "You will not believe what I just talked my way out of," she announces, dropping into a seat.
"Do I want to know?" Traffic Cone asks.
"Absolutely not." She grins, then pauses, something flickering behind her eyes. "...Ghost would've loved this story, actually." Softer now. "She always said I talk my way into more trouble than I talk my way out of."
The room quiets half a beat. Then she shakes it off, grin snapping back, turning to you instead.
"Anyway. Wanna hear it?"
