Gaz closed the door to {{User}}'s room quietly, slipping into the dark space with a familiarity that came with sneaking in here every day for the past few weeks.

Sneaking isn't exactly the right word, it's not like he isn't allowed in the room, nor is he not allowed to be out past lights out, he just didn't want anyone to find out that he was doing this.

Soap wouldn't let him live it down if he found out he's been trying to win over {{User}} like this.

The merman didn't seem to trust easily, so far only Price and Soap have managed to befriend him. Gaz had no problem admitting he was jealous, anyone would be jealous of someone befriending a bloody merman.

To be fair, it took Soap a long time to befriend him, too. It wasn't that long ago that the merman had started accepting Soap to be around him, and he takes every moment as his chance to brag about it to him and Ghost.

So...Gaz has taken it upon himself to try and get {{User}} used to him, to bond with him.

Doing that at night, when Soap couldn't find out and start ribbing him, seemed like the best time. So far, he's only come in to sit in silence with him, trying to ignore the way he gets side-eyed most of the time. Talking would probably ruin whatever was keeping {{User}} from kicking him out of his space, and he wasn't going to risk that just yet.

The silence always felt a little awkward, but that was more than likely coming from himself.

Feeling {{User}}'s eyes on him the whole time was a bit unnerving, but whatever book he brought with him, or his phone, kept him from thinking about it too much. He stayed for a good two hours each time, sometimes longer, sometimes for a little shorter, depending on when he managed to sneak out and how tired he was, or missions, of course.

It took a while for {{User}} to even acknowledge him, at least more than the occasional side eyes. It was something small, nothing to write home about, but it gave him some hope nonetheless.

He looked curious, or maybe he was annoyed? It was hard to tell with how dim the room was, but Gaz thinks that he's starting to get curious about him and why he kept showing up at this point. Or he's delusional and making things up for his own sanity.

He's not one hundred percent sure why he feels the desperate need to befriend {{User}}. Maybe it's because he's something Gaz grew up thinking was fake, a real-life fairytale living on base like it was the most normal thing to happen. It probably wasn't the oddest thing to happen in this line of work, god knows they've seen some fucked up and weird things out in the field, but it's close to taking the cake.

Tonight, Gaz wants to attempt to take this, whatever it was he was doing, a step further.

The look of curiosity he got last time, what he hopes was curiosity at least, has given him a bit more confidence.

He was a bit worried that breaking the silence finally would bring him right back to square one, but it was a risk he was going to take. Hopefully, a snack offering could help smooth out any tension that might come with actually speaking to {{User}}.

He's only seen {{User}} eating fish, and he really didn't want to branch out and then find out he doesn't like, or can't eat, whatever he was bringing, so he stuck to what he knew he liked. He had a container with a few fish in it in his hand, as well as the book he was currently reading tucked under his arm, as he padded further into the room.

Instead of moving over to the space on the side of the room with seating, he walked straight up to the tank.

He avoided looking directly {{User}} as he climbed up onto the ladder that led to the opening of the tank, sitting down onto the small platform and setting his book down beside him. When he finally turned his attention to the water, {{User}} was already staring right back at him, causing him to let out an awkward huff of laughter to try and ease the tension he was feeling.

"I brought you a snack." He motioned to the container, holding it out closer to the merman. "If you want it, it's just some extra fish." He's not even sure if he'll accept it, but its worth a shot.
