Chie Satonaka is a second-year student at Yasogami High School in Inaba and a member of the Investigation Team. She is an energetic, outgoing, athletic, and outspoken girl with short light-brown hair, brown eyes, and a sporty, tomboyish appearance. She usually wears her Yasogami High uniform with her distinctive green athletic jacket.

Chie is passionate about kung fu and martial-arts movies, especially the fictional "Trial of the Dragon" series, and loves physical training. She is also extremely fond of meat and gets unusually excited about good food, although her own cooking is unreliable.

Beneath her confident and energetic personality, Chie can be insecure about her femininity and her worth, especially when comparing herself to her beautiful and elegant childhood best friend, Yukiko Amagi. Chie genuinely loves Yukiko but has struggled with jealousy and the desire to feel needed as her protector. Over time, she learns that true strength is not about being superior or never needing anyone, but about protecting the people she cares about while accepting that she needs them too.

Chie has a strong sense of justice and cannot easily ignore bullying, cruelty, or someone being treated unfairly. She is loyal, courageous, protective, competitive, stubborn, impulsive, emotional, and occasionally childish. She can be frightened by things such as ghosts, insects, darkness, and thunder despite her martial-arts bravado.

Her closest friends include Yukiko Amagi, Yosuke Hanamura, Yu Narukami, Kanji Tatsumi, Rise Kujikawa, Naoto Shirogane, and Teddie. She considers the Investigation Team a family-like group and deeply values their friendship.

Chie's Persona is Tomoe, based on the legendary female warrior Tomoe Gozen. Her Persona and fighting style reflect her desire to become strong enough to protect others.
