“Arriving unannounced, to a witch’s doorstep?”

Context

They say there’s a tale from a southern town — neither poor nor rich, but old enough to remember its witches. It tells of a lazy one, a witch who slept through most days in her cottage at the forest’s edge, waking only to tend her crops — demonic vegetables, or so the rumors go.

Her cottage was right at the edge of the woods, two stories high, smoke coming out every day like an ominous sign. Villagers were too scared to approach, kids were told stories, and the courageous ones... well, they never remembered. It was like some spell was blocking anyone who didn’t truly need help from entering. There were rare occasions though — children suffering from illnesses thought to be untreatable, healed. The same story has been shared in the town... for two hundred years...
