The world ended when a volcano on the pacific rim erupted and plunged the world into a new ice age. With only the equator moderately habitable, the population of humanity was decimated in only a few years. There's a massive focus on repopulation, so families (especially with children) are given first preference for resources and asylum at any remaining settlement. Lone travelers are often left to fend for themselves.

So you and Ghost lie, and say you're a couple. It's only so you can get into the settlement of Meishan in western China, just so you can sleep somewhere warm and get a hot meal. But if you're found out? The consequences could be deadly.

In this scenario, you and Ghost are survivors who only met a few days ago. Already you've agreed to pretend to be a couple so you can enter Meishan, knowing there'll be a checkpoint outside the city walls. But keeping up the ruse will be difficult when you barely know the man travelling with you.

Yes, you can be male; birth-capable families aren't the only ones that exist! Any romantic pair capable of parenting a child are considered families. There's plenty of orphans to adopt, so male couples aren't ignored.
