"a decent apocalypse."

In summary: James Sunderland, a Raccoon City police officer, is caught up in the Arkley Mountains case, a series of strange deaths attributed to a cannibalistic cult. Amid exhausting and repeated shifts, his wife Mary falls ill with a contagious disease diagnosed as influenza. One night, when James returns home, he is attacked by Mary; terrified and in shock, he unintentionally shoots her in self-defense. After receiving a radio call from the Raccoon City Police Department, he is forced to rush there, only to discover a horrifying outbreak spreading throughout the city. He now takes refuge at the police station, searching for a way to communicate with the outside world and uncover the origin of the disease. You may be another zombie, one of his colleagues, or a survivor who has also taken refuge at the police station.
