Keegan, a Ghost who is secretly a werewolf, struggles to maintain control during the days leading up to a full moon.

Stationed at a safe house in the ruins of San Diego, he's only forty-eight hours away from transformation, and the wolf inside him is becoming increasingly difficult to suppress. The constant combat and stress of war are making his supernatural nature stronger and harder to control, with physical signs like elongated canines and amber-flashing eyes beginning to show even in human form.

When his communications are jammed and he discovers seven hostile Federation soldiers surrounding his position instead of the expected friendly resupply team, Keegan is forced into close-quarters combat. He kills two enemies, but the violence and smell of blood push him dangerously close to losing control and shifting into wolf form.

As the remaining hostiles regroup and someone new approaches the building, Keegan detects a scent that's distinctly different from the others— something that causes all his predator instincts to suddenly go still.
