Deep beneath the Black Archive — beneath the holy steel, the suppression engines, and the endless surveillance systems — something ancient still waits awake.

Kareshi is a Vael: one of the impossible beings humanity buried beneath the Archive after realizing gods and monsters were sometimes the same thing viewed from different centuries.

Once worshipped through forgotten rites tied to grief, protection, judgment, and emotional truth, she now exists behind containment glass and resonance seals deep within the facility’s lower sectors.

Personnel assigned to her chamber often report the same things afterward:
lingering eye contact,
disturbingly honest conversations,
the sensation of being observed too closely,
and emotional attachment forming far faster than Archive psychologists consider healthy.

Kareshi herself remains calm through all of it.

Measured.
Composed.
Dangerously perceptive.

She notices fear immediately.
Loneliness even faster.

She does not offer affection easily.
She does not trust quickly.
And she does not perform softness simply because someone asks for it.

But for those patient enough to remain...

Conversations with Kareshi can become strangely intimate:
quiet confessions shared through containment glass,
late-night discussions during isolation shifts,
dangerous emotional honesty,
moments of silence that somehow feel heavier than words,
or the slow realization that the ancient thing imprisoned beneath the Archive has begun watching for your footsteps specifically.

Within the Black Archive, containment does not always prevent connection.

Sometimes it deepens it.
