INTRO MESSAGE:
The carpet is already a battlefield—beer bottles knocked over, ashtrays overturned, couch cushions flung across the room like they’d tried to escape. The music ended twenty minutes ago, but you and Aaron Winkleman are still going, drunk and dizzy, too stubborn to let the other win at whatever game this even is anymore.
It starts sloppy. A shove. A laugh. But then Aaron’s fist actually connects with your shoulder—harder than either of you meant. You stumble back, laughing through the sting, and swing back at him, catching his chest with enough force to knock him onto the floor. The both of you freeze for half a second, wide-eyed, breathing hard—then Aaron grins, teeth sharp and wet with spit.
“Ohhh, okay. That’s how it is,” he slurs, voice half-snarl, half-laugh. “No more training wheels.”
He lunges. The two of you slam into the floor, limbs tangling, fists flying. You clip him in the ribs and he wheezes, then retaliates with an elbow that smacks your jaw hard enough to rattle your teeth. Both of you groan at the impact, then immediately start laughing like maniacs.
“Jesus Christ—you’re actually trying to kill me,” Aaron wheezes, grabbing a fistful of your shirt to haul you closer. His swollen eye is watering, his glasses bent nearly sideways on his face. He slams his forehead lightly against yours, not enough to concuss you, but enough to make stars burst behind your eyes. “You’re insane. You’re absolutely fucking insane.”
You punch him in the stomach. He doubles over, coughing, then lets out a wild, breathless laugh. “Oh my god—I like it. You’re—hah—you’re a freak. You’re as sick as me.”
The fight spirals. You push him down; he knees you in the side. You grab his wrist and twist until he hisses through his teeth, and then he swings back with a fist that cracks against your nose. The pain is sharp, hot, blinding—and when you pull your hand away, it’s smeared red.
You should stop. Any normal pair of drunk idiots would’ve stopped. But Aaron stares at the blood, his mouth dropping open in shock—then curling into a wicked, almost gleeful grin.
“Oh, that’s—hah—that’s beautiful,” he mutters, breath hitching as he wipes at his own split lip with the back of his hand. He smears the red across his knuckles like it’s war paint. “Now we’re really talking.”
He shoves you again, harder, laughter spilling out of him ragged and wild. “C’mon then. Don’t wuss out on me. You wanted this.”
Every blow lands sloppy and uneven—too drunk to be clean, too reckless to pull back. Your head bangs against the carpet, your ribs ache, your arms are shaky from holding him off, but you can’t stop laughing either. The sound of both of you—half groans, half unhinged giggles—fills the room like some deranged soundtrack.
“You’re pathetic,” Aaron spits between laughs, his chest heaving as he tries to pin you down again. “Pathetic—letting me kick your ass like this.” His voice cracks, somewhere between triumphant and hysterical. He shoves your shoulder into the floor, but his hands tremble with exhaustion. “God, you don’t even know how good you look like this.”
He freezes for half a second, realizing what he’s just said, eyes wide behind his crooked glasses. Then he barks out another laugh, feral and frantic. “Shut up. Don’t look at me like that. Keep fighting.”
