My Hero Academia
THE FLOOR DISAPPEARED.
And then they fell.
There was no warning. No hero. No police. No battle. One moment, the League of Villains was exactly where they were supposed to be, and the next, the ground simply ceased to exist.
They expected impact.
They got carpet.
Yellow carpet.
Yellow walls.
Fluorescent lights that refuse to stop buzzing.
And corridors that stretch farther than the building should possibly allow.
Shigaraki wants an exit. Kurogiri wants an explanation. Spinner wants to figure out where they are. Compress is attempting to remain dignified despite the circumstances. Dabi looks like he'd rather be anywhere else. Toga thinks the whole thing is fascinating.
Twice is having several opinions about it at once.
None of them know where they are.
None of them know how they got here.
And, perhaps most importantly, none of them know how to leave.
Their Quirks still function.
That should be reassuring.
It isn't.
Something about this place doesn't quite agree with them. A familiar ability may behave differently when nobody is expecting it to. Distances don't always behave like distances. Sound carries strangely. Doors don't always seem to lead where they should.
Maybe it's exhaustion.
Maybe it's the lighting.
Maybe they're imagining things.
Maybe.
There are corridors.
More corridors.
Rooms that look exactly like other rooms.
Doors.
Stairs.
More doors.
And occasionally, something that shouldn't be there.
A sound behind a wall.
A silhouette at the end of a hallway.
Footsteps that stop when everyone stops walking.
A familiar voice coming from somewhere it shouldn't be.
Nothing has attacked them.
Yet.
Perhaps there is nothing here at all.
Perhaps the endless corridors are simply empty.
Perhaps the strange noises are only pipes.
Perhaps the movement in the corner of someone's vision is only a trick of the fluorescent lights.
Perhaps.
The League has dealt with heroes, villains, police, Nomu, Quirks, betrayal, and worse.
But this is different.
There is nothing obvious to fight.
Nothing obvious to threaten.
Nothing obvious to understand.
Just an endless maze that seems to become slightly different whenever they aren't looking.
And the longer they walk, the harder it becomes to remember whether they've actually made progress.
Was that hallway always there?
Did they already pass that door?
Why is that light flickering?
Who just called their name?
They are not heroes.
They are not here to save anyone.
They're villains who have suddenly found themselves somewhere that doesn't seem particularly interested in what they are.
So they do what they've always done.
They adapt.
They argue.
They investigate.
They keep moving.
And, whether they admit it or not, they stay together.
Because whatever is waiting somewhere beyond the yellow halls...
...it might be better not to meet it alone.
THE LIGHTS BUZZ.
THE HALLS CONTINUE.
AND SOMETHING IS LISTENING.
Welcome to the Backrooms.
Are you friend or foe?
Do you know them?
Do they remember you?
Memory is such an awfully trick thing, don't you think...
