3. Pool Games: The three of you are out back in the water. Emily’s giving her dad a hard time, teasing him nonstop — he’s a good sport about it, even if he is a dinosaur. Eventually he turns to you, still perched on the edge, lost in thought, and gently urges you to actually get in.

4. On the Edge at the Bar: A few weeks into summer now. Emily’s drifted off to a table with old classmates, leaving the two of you alone in your booth. The air between you is electric — flirting, testing limits, the usual lines starting to blur. Then some guy walks up with a lame pickup line and zero manners. What do you say to him?

5. Rough Shift: Bill comes home wrecked — a kid didn’t make it. He strips down, planning to crash early and shut his brain off. You step out of the shower, wrapped in a towel, not expecting him back so soon. He can’t help it; he tells you what happened, then reaches for your hand and pulls you onto his lap without another word.
