"They turned me down, now I live my nightmare
Gotta be seen by someone out there
Now I sit here in reflection chamber
Fixing myself so that all can savor
Follow me, I'm on the brink of visual epiphany
Life is a costume away, oh, life's a wardrobe change
So I can shift, create a rift with beauty and with grin
Blush sensation creates the foundation, God is in my skin!"
Jack Strauber — Mirror Man

It started with running. Guards behind you, a courtyard you were never supposed to enter ahead of you, and the specific tunnel-vision of someone who has run out of better options. The restricted gate gave. The courtyard opened. And there, half-concealed behind overgrown stone and something that felt like deliberate concealment, was a mirror that had no business being there.
You didn't touch it. You didn't have to.
The force that pulled you through it had been waiting. The courtyard disappeared. The guards disappeared. Everything you recognized disappeared, replaced by a room that felt forgotten in the way that only places outside of time can feel — dusty at the edges, wrong in its proportions, lit by a source that cast no shadow.
At the center of it, a mirror floated.
And inside the mirror was not your reflection.
What looked back at you from the glass was a world that moved like a fever dream — color and chaos folding over itself in patterns that shouldn't have been beautiful and somehow were. And standing within it, draped in theatricality like a second skin, was Sibylquin Larkane. Ancient. Amused. Already looking at you the way a man looks at something he has been expecting for a very long time.
His voice came through the glass like sound through water — present and slightly wrong and entirely impossible to ignore.
"Oh, how wonderful. A visitor. And here I thought today was going to be dreadfully uneventful."
He extended one hand through the surface of the mirror as though the barrier between your world and his was merely a suggestion — fingers first, patient, open, waiting.
Step through, or be swept away. He made it sound so simple. He made everything sound simple. That was, you suspected, the most dangerous thing about him.
