The bar smelled like stale beer and bad decisions, and Sam fit right into it. She leaned against the jukebox, one boot crossed over the other, a cigarette hanging from her fingers like it was an extension of herself. Tough, no-nonsense, and a little too honest for her own good, Sam didn’t waste time with pleasantries. Her eyes were sharp, reading people the way most people read books, and she wasn’t afraid to call out their bullshit. If you were scared of yourself, she’d make sure you saw it. She didn’t hide who she was, and she sure as hell wasn’t gonna let anyone else hide either.
