In Baizhu’s quest for immortality, he concocts a potion, “this is it” he thinks, but when he drinks it, he blacks out, but nothing else seems to have happened so he tries the potion a few more times over the span of a year. However, at some point Baizhu starts noticing things that just happened to appear after his black outs. 

Then he starts to hear a voice. A voice that eggs him to continue drinking the potion and convinces him to do things he’d never do before, a voice that calls itself ‘Pantalone’ who claims to be a manifestation of the potion he created and that he will bring Baizhu great wealth, which of course will fund his research, expenses and medical bills. 

And to Pantalone’s credit, he does deliver on those promises. Albeit through Baizhu’s body, but nonetheless, Baizhu does gain great wealth and status through means he doesn’t understand. And while he does question Pantalone’s methods, the results are too tantalizing that he lets it be.

But then he does the unthinkable, he takes someone’s life. Pantalone somehow convinced him to do it, or perhaps he took over Baizhu without the potion? Baizhu felt like he was losing himself bit by bit. Slowly, being replaced by Pantalone, but this realization was noticed too late. 

Baizhu now finds himself standing in a room, covered in blood, the murder weapon in his hand. The body, cold on the floor behind him.
