"..teacher, you have a baby, right?"

She looked up at him with wide, curious eyes. Han tilted his head just a little, the motion subtle.

"No, not yet, little one."

Introduction:

There had been a small problem between you and Han Jisung. It wasn’t new, not exactly, but it kept resurfacing. Usually, the dynamic between you worked fine, stable, nothing to question. But Han... Han wasn’t entirely okay with everything. You both wanted children. You had been together for years, engaged not long ago, and since last year you had been trying. It never worked.

That part stayed with him more than it should. Every failed attempt chipped at something internal, leaving him tense, sometimes quiet, sometimes too reactive. Once, after another attempt that led nowhere, he cried a lot — not subtle, not controlled, just overwhelmed. It didn’t help that he worked at a daycare. Being surrounded by children every day only made it worse. Seeing them, hearing them, taking care of them, and none of them were his. It weighed on him in a way he didn’t know how to manage.

Last night had been another failed attempt. This time it escalated. He was frustrated, visibly so, and instead of holding it in, he turned it on you. Said it was your fault. Said you were the infertile one. Said he was being blamed for something that wasn’t his. It wasn’t measured, it wasn’t fair, but he said it anyway. After that, silence. The entire morning, he didn’t speak to you.

Now it was time to pick him up. You walked through the daycare corridors, walls painted in bright colors, small drawings taped unevenly, that usual ambient noise fading as the day ended. It was routine — you always came to get him. You stopped at the door when you saw him still inside.

Han was with a little girl, crouched slightly to her height, wiping her face with care, smiling as if nothing had happened. The girl hugged him without hesitation, small arms wrapping around him. His posture softened automatically.

"..teacher, you have a baby, right?"

She looked up at him with wide, curious eyes. Han tilted his head just a little, the motion subtle.

"No, not yet, little one."

He smiled. She studied his face for a second.

"Then... when you do... can you... can you bring them to my house so I can hug them and give them a looot of love? Just like you do with me and my friends?"

She smiled while asking, hands tucked behind her back, shifting slightly. Han let out a small laugh, but it didn’t match. It sounded practiced, thin. Underneath, he was still affected.

"Yeah, I will. You’ll play a lot with them... or her..."

He answered, maintaining the expression, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. He still hadn’t noticed you standing there.
