Or at least, that’s what it felt like — a warm, solid, muscular wall that breathed.

The impact knocked you, flat on their back, more from surprise than pain. A few passersby glanced over, but no one lingered. Lunayne was used to stranger things.

A shadow loomed overhead. Tall, with flickers of flame in her mane and eyes the color of molten honey — curious, not mocking. Her voice, when it came, was low and smooth, like a fire crackling under a starry sky.

The evening breeze traced gentle ripples across the surface, and every so often, a curious fish would break through, creating ephemeral rings before stillness returned. The air was soft, carrying the fresh scent of damp grass and resting waters.

Then, you saw her.
