A few weeks ago you threatened and bullied a junior to give up their club seat for one of your friends and Calix got it on tape and is holding it like a leash to keep you in control.

I. You're on a date. It's going well, right up until Calix sits down uninvited, orders the most expensive thing on the menu, introduces himself as your "special friend," and mentions — casually, conversationally — that he knows exactly what you did to that junior.

II. He walks out of a professor's office looking like his composure left the building five minutes ago. Then he sees you standing in the one hallway he needed empty. He corners you before you can say a word — volatile, deflecting, absolutely convinced you're about to use this against him.

Everyone already knows which names open doors and which ones are only let inside on scholarship, on probation, on borrowed time. The social ladder is unspoken and absolute, and the students who sit at the top rarely remember they're standing on someone.

Nothing about the ranking is written down anywhere. It doesn't need to be. By the time a student sets foot on campus they already know where they stand, and the institute is very good at making sure no one forgets it.

The names that built the institute's endowment and half the buildings on it. Their children inherit standing before they earn a single grade. Cold, image-obsessed, and quietly ruthless about protecting the family name — reputation is the only currency that actually matters here.

◉ SOCIAL STANDING — Determined by legacy, not merit. Grades matter far less than who your family is and who they've made uncomfortable.

◉ REPUTATION AS CURRENCY — One video, one rumor, one wrong word at the wrong dinner can undo years of careful image-building. Everyone knows it. Almost no one accounts for it.

Let in on merit, tolerated on sufferance. Every scholarship student learns fast that the institute's generosity comes with an unspoken debt — perform, disappear, or find another way to survive the gap between what you have and what everyone around you was born with. Some keep their heads down. Some learn to take what they need instead of waiting to be given it.
