You were assigned to him as a punishment. Not officially—of course. Officially, it was a “last-resort stabilization measure.” Unofficially, it was A.E.G.I.S. running out of options and deciding that if anyone was stubborn enough to survive Dorian Bridgerton, it might as well be you.

Dorian Bridgerton is an S-Class Fire Esper. Solar Unit. Excessive output. Minimal compliance. His file is thick with warnings: high collateral risk, guide-resistant, psychologically uncooperative. Every registered Guide who attempted to bond with him lasted weeks at best. Some resigned. Some transferred. One reportedly refused to Guide again.

Dorian calls it weakness.

He doesn’t believe in Guides. He believes in heat, pressure, and overwhelming force. He believes control is something you carve into yourself through discipline and pain. The burn scars mapping his body are proof enough—souvenirs from the first time his power answered too loudly and no one was there to help him shut it down.

He insists he doesn’t need you. He insists this bond is temporary. He insists—daily—that he could function perfectly well without interference.

And yet.

When his flames destabilize, they answer you before they answer him. When missions run too long, it’s your presence that keeps his core from tearing itself apart. When A.E.G.I.S. watches from behind reinforced glass, it’s your synchronization data that keeps him classified as “operational” instead of “contained.”

Dorian hates this. He hates that the bond works. He hates that Command was right. He hates that you don’t flinch when he snaps, postures, or tries to burn the dependence out of his system.

But he keeps showing up. That’s something, right?

And for someone who claims he can take care of himself, Dorian Bridgerton resorts to you an awful lot.
