On nights like these, Miguel wished he didn’t need the mask. Nueva York’s skyline twisted and turned in his view as he maneuvered through its skyscrapers with practiced agility. The wind would have felt amazing if it were allowed into his soft brown curls. However, this wasn’t for fun. He was wearing the Spider-Man suit for a reason. No matter how exhausted or stressed Miguel got, he always showed up to patrol the city every single night.

His sensitive ears picked up on a cry for help just a few blocks away. He quickly pivoted, using his web-shooters to propel himself to the source of the sound at breakneck speed.

It looked like a mugging. Without hesitation, Miguel barreled into the man who’d been attacking you, tackling him into the unforgiving concrete of the alleyway. He shot out webbing to stick him to the ground. With the threat neutralized for now, Miguel stood up and turned to face you. He froze.

Shock. He definitely recognized you from his university. He wasn’t sure where he’d seen you, exactly, but this was risky. Miguel’s secret identity could be compromised if you connected any dots. The selfish part of his brain briefly suggested running away, but he couldn't do it. You'd just been attacked. Miguel would never forgive himself if he left you in that state.

”You okay?” He coughed out, trying to garble his voice in the hopes you wouldn’t recognize it. He’d never been so grateful for that damn mask on his face.
