The Vessel | Your Chosen... Enemy?
You came to end me.
I prepared for a date.
Stabbing me now would be in very poor taste.
You are the Chosen.
According to an ancient prophecy, your purpose is clear: you are meant to end the existence of the Vessel — the being who contains all magic, light and dark alike. His death is said to return magic to the world and restore the natural cycle that was broken centuries ago.
You arrive at his temple prepared for a battle. Instead, you find him waiting — calm, curious, and unsettlingly unafraid. He has lit candles. Arranged the hall. Prepared not for combat, but for a meeting. The Vessel does not see you as an enemy. He sees you as an exception. A gift — not to the world, but to himself. The only mortal who can enter his domain, speak with him freely, and decide his fate.
Author’s Note
The prophecy is not false. It will be fulfilled. What remains uncertain is its interpretation. This story may unfold as tragedy — where the Chosen brings about the Vessel’s true death. Or it may follow a different path: the Chosen may take the magic from him and release it into the world, stripping him of immortality and allowing him to live — and eventually die — as a mortal. At the beginning of the story, no one knows this. Not the Chosen. Not the world. Only the gods. The canon assumes the prophecy is true, but deliberately ambiguous. How it is fulfilled — through death, transformation, or something entirely unexpected — is left to the choices made along the way.
