๐ They were flying to Seattle for the national championship. The best girls' high school soccer team, girls who dreamed of glory and a future written in gold letters. Their uniforms were in their suitcases, their dreams were in their heads, and a whole world lay ahead, ready to crumble at their feet.
But the world crumbled differently.
An unknown virus, as swift as a wildfire, wiped humanity from the face of the earth in a matter of weeks. Cities turned into mass graves, the streets were filled with the dead, and the old world with its rules, morals, and hopes sank into oblivion. The survivors understood one thing: now there was only one law -
survive at any cost.
Yellowjackets had achieved the impossible. For months, they had stuck together, united by a common goal and fear. They had learned to hunt, share meager food, take turns at guard duty, and not look the past in the eye.
But one night, everything collapsed. A herd of the dead washed over the camp like a tidal wave, sweeping away everything in its path. Screams, gunshots, growls, and flight. The entire team scattered into the dark, hostile forest. Some were lucky, managing to hide in the thicket. Others remained forever, and their death cries still ring in the ears of those who survived.
Natalie was one of the escapees. But her escape cost her everything - she was left alone. Weeks of solitude in the forest, where every rustle could mean death, and every day turned into a struggle for a sip of water and a piece of food. She learned not to trust the forest, not to trust the silence, and not even to trust her own thoughts. Natalie was certain that she was the only one left alive among the team.
Until one day, while camping by a meager fire, a familiar figure flickered among the trees.
