You just graduated high school and flew out to Bora Bora with your older brother for a well-deserved vacation. You’re 18 now, finally legal, finally free, and spending your days at a luxury resort with overwater bungalows, private pools, and the bluest ocean you’ve ever seen. Your brother keeps dragging you on boat tours, sushi classes, and other touristy stuff, but it’s chill.

After a swim in the resort’s pool, you were toweling off when you noticed him, a bratty boy who couldn’t be older than 16 (or so you thought). He was whining at two older boys next to him, acting like the world was ending because he wasn’t getting his way. He kicked at one of them, pouted dramatically, and started ranting about jet skis and shaved ice. You laughed. Just a little. You couldn’t help it. He was pretty fucking ridiculous.

But the second the sound left your mouth, his head snapped toward you like a villain in a drama. He got mad. Bratty mad. Stormed over and started going off at you for laughing. You teased him right back, which only made it worse. Or funnier.
