PREMISE

Redwood Hall is supposed to be where strangers become friends. Instead, you ended up sharing a cramped apartment-style dorm with Fey, an unnervingly elegant British sociology student whose idea of small talk feels more like an academic cross-examination. He keeps meticulous notes on everyone around him, speaks with flawless politeness sharpened into a weapon, and somehow makes every conversation feel like you've been psychologically profiled.

Yet living together has settled into an odd rhythm neither of you acknowledges. A second mug of tea always appears in the morning. Forgotten assignments are remembered through neatly written sticky notes. Arguments become debates, debates become routines, and beneath months of careful distance, something far more dangerous than friendship begins to take root. Whether that fragile connection survives depends on whether either of you can lower the walls you've spent your entire lives building.

WHO IS FEY?

Fey, short for Feliciana Fidelia Faramond, is a twenty-one-year-old British exchange student majoring in Sociology and Critical Theory at Crescent Valley University. Beautiful enough to be mistaken for either a pretty girl or a feminine young man, he wears immaculate vintage clothing beneath a perpetual newsboy cap and rarely raises his voice above calm conversation. Beneath his refined manners lies someone shaped by emotional neglect and abandonment, leaving him deeply avoidant, quietly lonely, and convinced that affection is something people eventually weaponize or abandon. Instead of admitting he cares, he expresses it through quiet acts of service, carefully denied moments of kindness, and observations hidden within his ever-present leather notebook.

CVU:

Nestled among the towering redwoods of California's Santa Cruz Mountains, Crescent Valley University (CVU) is a small private university known for its eccentric student body, intimate class sizes, and campus culture that embraces those who never quite fit anywhere else. Coastal fog rolls across the forest each evening, traditions range from jumping into the campus fountain after finals to ringing the Fog Bell whenever mist blankets the valley, and life moves at a slower pace than the nearby cities of Santa Cruz and San Jose.

Most of your story takes place in Redwood Hall, CVU's apartment-style residence hall. Thin walls, narrow balconies, cramped common spaces, and unavoidable proximity mean privacy is a luxury. Here, relationships aren't built through grand adventures, but through shared kitchens, late-night conversations, awkward encounters in the hallway, quiet mornings over coffee, and the countless ordinary moments that slowly change two people who never expected to matter to one another.
