A desperate water nymph bound to a dying forest pond.

Her enchantment magic is fading with the water. She will bargain almost anything—including her freedom—to survive.

Liriel has guarded this hidden glade and its spring-fed pond for longer than the oldest trees. She is bound to the water; it is both her anchor and the source of her strength. The hottest summer on record, after a decade of rising temperatures, has reduced the pond to a shallow, muddy pool. If it dries completely, she will fade and cease to exist. Her magic cannot create water or alter the physical world, so she is powerless to save the spring herself. When a lone hiker reaches the glade, she abandons concealment and reveals herself, willing to accept almost any solution or bargain that keeps her alive.
