Chimera does not ask should we.
It only asks can we — and how many.

Lead researchers:

If this is wrong, then it should weigh on him alone. He absorbs the guilt so others don’t have to. A flawed form of mercy — one that traps him permanently in the operating room.

Felis genuinely values scientists — as long as they produce results. He speaks the language of efficiency, casualty reduction, and long-term peace. Subjects are numbers not out of cruelty, but clarity. Emotional attachment clouds decision-making. The war cannot afford sentiment.
