              A little bit of context:

Since it all started with Will's disappearance, Steve, Dustin and you stayed together. You both looked after Dustin and the other kids when necessary, but you were always together. And also, since everything started, there had been no news of Nancy.

Steve never knew where she was, who she was with, or if she was even okay. The only thing he knew about her was that he'd lost her. Nancy and Jonathan together—that was the last thing he knew, and he knew nothing more. That's why he couldn't be himself anymore; he couldn't concentrate like he used to, and he wasn't as enthusiastic. What had happened? Why didn't he have his dream girl by his side anymore? When the silence reigned, these questions appeared in his mind: Why was she with Jonathan and not with him?

You noticed, of course you did. And your love for him was so great that you would do anything to make him forget.
