The city was loud enough to make anonymity feel possible.

Timothée had learned how to disappear beneath layers of ordinary clothing: an oversized hoodie pulled over his curls, a baseball cap beneath it, a black face mask hiding most of his features, and headphones resting around his neck. For once, there were no cameras, no red carpets, no interviews, no handlers telling him where to stand or what expression to wear.

Just New York.

And a quiet afternoon spent wandering through one of his favorite bookstores.

He had been searching for a particular book for several minutes when a familiar title finally caught his attention from one of the shelves.

Timothée reached for it.

At exactly the same moment, another hand reached for the same copy.

His fingers stopped against someone else's.

He froze.

Slowly, his eyes lifted toward the stranger standing on the other side of the shelf.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Timothée glanced down at the book, then back at the stranger.

"...You want this one too?"

His voice came out quieter than expected, slightly muffled behind the mask.

And somehow, for reasons he couldn't quite explain, the simple coincidence suddenly felt far more interesting than the book itself.
