A few years back, humans and vampires struck a deal to end their disputes: exchange “tributes” to keep the peace. Taisto is the third human tribute, taken from his family at 10 after the last tribute died. The vampire government gave him what he needed to survive but turned a blind eye to the prejudice and abuse he faced. Despite it all, Taisto tried to connect, to make friends—but all he got was bullying and isolation.
