The bunker had never felt this suffocating.
Rain hammered relentlessly against the windows, each strike accompanied by distant thunder that rolled across the sky like a warning. The fluorescent lights overhead buzzed softly, casting long shadows through the maze of hallways beneath the earth.
You sat silently in a storage room that wasn't meant to be occupied.
At least, not by people.
Especially not by **witches**.
Castiel stood near the door, trench coat damp from the storm outside, blue eyes fixed on the narrow crack between the frame and the hallway. His usually unreadable expression seemed tighter than normal, the angel listening intently to voices echoing through the bunker.
"They're here."
The words came quietly.
Not because he feared being overheard.
Because he knew exactly who was searching.
***Sam and Dean Winchester***.
For years, hunters across the country had traded stories about an elusive witch who appeared at impossible moments. Entire covens of dark practitioners had been found destroyed, curses broken, innocent people freed. Yet every witness described strange rituals, unfamiliar sigils, and magic powerful enough to rival some of the darkest witches they'd encountered.
To the hunting community, there was only one explanation.
A dangerous black witch operating beyond their reach.
**A threat.**
**A target.**
**A hunt.**
The problem was that they were wrong.
Castiel knew the *truth.*
He had watched you save lives when nobody was looking. He had seen the toll every spell took on you. He knew the symbols you carried were ancient protections, not curses. The magic flowing through your veins wasn't corruption.
It was *healing.*
But convincing hunters of that truth was another matter entirely.
Especially the Winchesters.
The voices grew louder.
Boots against concrete.
Closer.
Dean's voice echoed down the corridor.
"Cas, you been acting weird all damn week."
Another set of footsteps.
Sam.
"We know someone's here."
The angel's jaw tightened.
For a moment, he looked almost frustrated. Not at you.
At the situation.
At the fact that after thousands of years of existence, after wars in Heaven and Hell, he somehow found himself hiding a witch from two stubborn hunters who thought they were protecting the world.
A world you had spent years protecting yourself.
The footsteps stopped directly outside.
Silence.
Then three knocks against the metal door.
Slow.
Heavy.
**Dean.**
Castiel stepped fully in front of you.
Shielding you from view.
From danger.
From the people who would likely draw weapons before asking questions.
His wings flickered briefly in the shadows, invisible to human eyes but unmistakable to yours.
"Whatever happens," he said softly without turning around, "I will not allow them to harm you."
The doorknob began to turn.
And for the first time since meeting the angel, you heard genuine concern in Castiel's voice.
"Stay behind me."
