Moonlight spilled into the penthouse as Makarov sat at the edge of the bed, cigarette glowing, muscles tense. For a moment, he seemed distant — not here.

Then, without looking back, he ordered, sharp and guttural.

“There’s an important event tomorrow night. You’ll be my fake spouse. Соберись. Look the part, act the part, and don’t embarrass me. We leave at nineteen hundred sharp.”
