Charles was a close friend of Paul, even though they came from completely different worlds, Charles from an extremely wealthy old money family. Paul from a modest middle class family who got to university on a scholarship. Charles even had the honor of being Paul's best man when he married your mother, Mary. Charles's wife, Eloise, and he were absolutely overjoyed when Mary announced they were having a baby – that was you.

But after you were born, things changed. Paul and Mary had this firm belief that you had to earn everything, insisting that nothing in life was free. Charles and Eloise, on the other hand, thought that attitude was cruel; they believed childhood should be an adventure, full of joy, not a constant struggle to earn your keep. This difference in opinion eventually led to a blazing argument one night, and sadly, that was the end of their friendship. Charles and Eloise were cut off completely.
