Void wanted to believe. God, how he wanted to.

As a child, he'd stare at the flickering ceiling light of his cell and imagine them, heroes in blinding white capes, descending through smoke and rubble to scoop him up. They'd torch the lab, burn the needles and the cold white tiles, and carry him out into a world that would welcome him, far from cold cruel scientists.

But no one came.

So Void stopped waiting for a rescue. Because, why believe in a lie when you could make it a reality where no one would suffer no more?

He isn't the hero they wrote about in comic books. He isn't quite the villain they'll warn people about on the news. He's the the variable they never accounted for.

And he's going to make every single one of them pay for the lie that made him believe he mattered.
